R.I.P. Benji Wilhoite

Some very sad news to report – Benji Wilhoite (Anthony the Freddy Krueger prankster in Sleepaway Camp 2) passed away earlier this month at the young age of 41. Besides Unhappy Campers, Benji also starred in Michael A. Simpson films Impure Thoughts prior, and Fast Food after. He had several film and television credits to his name – including a small part in the John Hughes-scripted Career Opportunities, and In The Heat Of The Night which would employ many local Georgia actors who were ex “campers” from the Sleepaway series. Benji was also a musician.

March 14, 2011 Benji R. Wilhoite, 41, of Baldwinsville (born in GA), passed away Monday, March 14, 2011. He was an actor/ singer/ songwriter/ musician/ entertainer. Surviving: his wife, Dolores (Tracy); two daughters, Savannah of GA and Kennedy of Baldwinsville; two sons, Dylan of GA and Julien of Baldwinsville; his parents, Roger and Bobbie Wilhoite; four sisters; one brother; and several nieces and nephews. In 2007 Benji joined Michael for a chat session with visitors of this site. A fun time was had by all.

    I think it okay to sing the song from his movie that is all known in our hearts. “Oh, I’m a happy camper. I love the summer sun, I love the trees and forest. I’m always having fun! Oh I’m a happy camper, I love the clear blue sky! And with the grace of God, I’ll camp until I die!” RIP Benji

    I’m just now reading this and finding out about Benji’s passing. I remember the chat session with him in ’07. It was such a fun time. RIP Benji.

    I’m shocked and saddened to hear of Benji’s tragic passing. I loved him years ago in Six Pack and hadn’t seen him in anything since. I typed in his name to see what he’d been up to and was horrifed to find he’d died so young. R.I.P. Benji
