ANGELA'S SLEEPAWAYS By Teddy Johnson Pilot: "You Just Opened Up a Whole New Can of Worms, Fellas" FADE IN: Camp Rolling Hills. Ext. Night. The camera slowly creeps along the camp's exteriors. It is apparently some time since "Sleepaway Camp 3: Teenage Wasteland." The camp itself is in a state of decay, no doubt from the lack of repair done to the structures there. FADE TO: Camp Rolling Hills Dining Hall. Int. Night. The moonlight shafts in from the boarded-up windows. Tables are overturned and chairs clutter the floor. It looks as though this place should be condemned. Just then, the 32-year-old ANGELA BAKER, Rolling Hills' resident murderess, springs into the camera's view from below. ANGELA (to camera): No, no, no. You shouldn't be scared. This isn't a sleepaway for you... (pause) This one was mine... Angela rakes her fingers across the camera, causing the scene to wipe to... CUT TO: Camp Arawak. Ext. Night. 1983. The camera wipes to Camp Arawak, the first camp which suffered from Angela Baker's murderous wrath. Several POLICEMAN stand around the area as silent police sirens flash, lighting up the area in shades of blue and red. POLICEMAN 1: Can you believe this? POLICEMAN 2: Positively disgusting... a transvestite! Four other POLICEMEN come in, hauling the 15-year-old Angela, or more accurately Peter Baker, with them. Peter is wrapped in a police blanket and handcuffed as the policemen pull him along. Peter tries to do all he can to get away, but the four policemen keep him from getting away each time. Eventually, the four policemen push Peter into the back seat of a police car. As soon as they lock the door, one of the policemen goes around and gets into the driver's seat, then hauls out of the area, taking Camp Arawak's slaughterer to incarceration. Another policeman, police chief BARNEY WHITMORE, walks out of the darkness and over to nearby policemen. BARNEY: They finally got him? POLICEMAN 2: Yeah. Took 'em a while to do it too, he didn't want to go. BARNEY: How many bodies did they find? POLICEMAN 4: Last count was 10, but I've read reports of a few more. BARNEY: Have all the parents been contacted? POLICEMAN 3: We've gotten to most of them. It's really gonna hit the fan when the parents all get lawsuits on their minds. BARNEY: You know, my boy Sean wanted to come here this year. POLICEMAN 1: Mine too! But I just thought he was little young for camp. Why didn't yours go? BARNEY: I couldn't afford it. Sometimes being poor has its advantages. POLICEMAN 2: Really. CUT TO: Courtroom. Int. Day. Angela's trial is currently going on. The JUDGE, who has a passing resemblance to Harry Anderson, sits at the head of it all. Angela's DEFENSE ATTORNEY is there and the PROSECUTOR is there as well. Behind those involved in the trial are the families, witnesses, and policemen involved in the Camp Arawak massacre. Separate from everybody else is Angela, now fully clothed in women's clothing, contained in a steel cage with glass windows surrounding her. Angela is chained into a chair and can do nothing other than rattle her chains every so often to freak everybody out. JUDGE: The court cannot make ` any kind of ruling as it has been established without a doubt that the defendant suffers from mental incompetence and therefore not fit to stand trial. It is the order of this court that Peter Francis Baker be turned over to the Blue Skies Sanitarium for observation for a time period of no less than one year in which the defendant's doctors will report to this court again and it shall be decided whether or not the defendant's mental condition has improved. Bailiff, take the prisoner to holding. The Judge bangs his gavel. The BAILIFF walks over to the steel cage and unlocks it, he then bends down and unlocks the chains holding Peter within the chair. After the chains are all unlocked, the Bailiff handcuffs Peter, then walks him out of the courtroom. The families all look at the self-proclaimed Angel of Death wrathfully as he is lead out of the courtroom. CUT TO: Blue Skies Sanitarium. Ext. Day. The wind blows the neatly-kept grass yard of the asylum. CUT TO: Doctor's office. Int. Day. Drs. GUESS, FONTANE, and HARRIS are all going over copies of documents chronicling Peter. PhDs and diplomas litter the walls of the office. FONTANE: Peter Francis Baker. Born February 13th, 1968. 15 years old. GUESS: No wonder he's disturbed, have you guys got to the aunt part yet? HARRIS: Ugh, yes. What kind of sick individual dresses their four-year-old nephew up as a girl? FONTANE: I think a better question is why isn't she here? The doctors all laugh. HARRIS: This is going to be a helluva case to handle. I mean, why do we get all the odd ones? Why can't we just get a schizo or multiple personalities? GUESS: Come now, not everything is easy. Nothing worthwhile ever is. FONTANE: Has anyone met Peter Baker yet? HARRIS: No, I've been a little busy elsewhere. GUESS: I did. FONTANE: What's he like? GUESS: Really quiet. Keeps to himself. Doesn't talk much. HARRIS: Well, it's the quiet ones ya gotta watch. GUESS: How do you figure? I'll bet you anything that while you're watching a quiet person who's not bothering anybody, a noisy one will kill you. FONTANE: You seen the pictures of Baker yet? HARRIS: Yeah, creepy looking, ain't he? Really short and thin isn't he? FONTANE: And that long hair doesn't help matters either. GUESS: Hey, guys, I just realized something. HARRIS: That this case is oddly reminiscent of "The Crying Game"? Guess thinks. GUESS: Well, now that you mention it, yeah, but that wasn't it. FONTANE: Well, what was it? GUESS: Peter was raised as a girl, right? FONTANE: That's what it says here. GUESS: Well, before we begin to treat him, why don't we really change him into a woman? FONTANE: Are you talking about what I think you're talking about? GUESS: A sex change. Yes. The other two doctors are a little unnerved at what Guess is suggesting. HARRIS: Is such a thing even possible? GUESS: Certainly, with the help of drugs and pills and certain hormones. FONTANE: What about the secret that Baker let out of the bag at the beach? GUESS: Well, that's the main focus of a sex change, penile inversion. The penis is split down the middle into four sections like a banana peel and the tubes inside are inverted to go in rather than out. The other doctors aren't entirely convinced. GUESS: Look, Peter's sexual identification is female. This "Angela Baker" as he calls himself is who he really is now, so why don't we just further that along and make him a bona fide woman? Then, after he's recovered, we can begin the treatment. HARRIS: Well... FONTANE: Even if we were to succeed at such an operation, how would we make Peter into a woman emotionally? GUESS: Well, we could give him hormone pills and drugs to help. We could also give him breast implants to complete the transformation. HARRIS: Guys, this is by far the strangest case we've ever handled. The other doctors laugh. GUESS: You can say that again. CUT TO: Operating room. Int. Day. Peter is lying asleep on an operating table as several DOCTORS work around nearby, prepping themselves for the task at hand. CUT TO: Auditorium. Int. Day. Several of the psychiatrists are all watching the operation. Drs. Guess, Harris, and Fontane are present as well. Below them, we can see the doctors about to begin working on Peter. FONTANE: Are you people still sure about this? GUESS: Sure. When Peter wakes up, he'll be more manageable I believe. HARRIS: If anyone has any doubts, this would be the time to raise them. Everyone remains silent. HARRIS: Alright, let's get ready to play Frankenstein. GUESS: Peter Cushing or Colin Clive? Harris looks over at Guess. FONTANE: Gene Wilder. FADE TO: Peter's room. Int. Day. It's about a week after the previous scene. The bandaged body of Peter is lying strapped to his bed in his room. Drs. Guess, Harris, and Fontane are all there. Apparently, it is time for the unveiling. GUESS: Angela? Angela? Guess softly taps Peter on the side of his head. The only thing not wrapped in bandages are his eyes, which slowly open and blink several times. GUESS: Angela? We've got a surprise for you. We can only hope that you'll like it. Guess looks back at Harris and jerks his head forward. Harris goes over closer to Peter. The two doctors begin to unwrap Peter's head and soon finish. From the back, it doesn't look much different than it did when Peter was at Camp Arawak. Fontane hands a mirror to Guess, who holds it up for Angela to see. We see in the reflection, the brand new all female Angela Baker. Here, Angela looks like a younger version of herself from "Sleepaway Camp 2: Unhappy Campers." Angela's eyes study the image in the mirror and seems to have trouble believing it's really her. The three doctors look at one another. GUESS: She seems to like it. FADE TO: Guess' office. Int. Day. The three doctors are all there. Peter, or now, more accurately, Angela is also there, dressed only in one of the hospital's gowns and she is sitting in one of the chairs. GUESS: Angela, since you were originally a boy, but brought up to be a girl, we thought it would be best for you if we just went ahead and gave you a sex change. You'll have to learn a few new things about feminine hygiene and matters like that, but very little. You won't have to try to convince yourself that you're a girl, because now you are one. Angela remains silent. Harris and Fontane look at each other. GUESS: We tinkered with your vocal cords so your voice wouldn't be as deep. We injected you with certain hormones that would (motions with hands) push along the change from male to female. We also gave you breast implants so as you would appear more feminine-looking. Angela looks over herself. ANGELA: You should have gotten Barbara Mandrell to explain it to me. FONTANE: Come again? HARRIS: I get it. She sang "You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman." Angela winks at Harris. FONTANE: Oh. Guess looks back at Fontane and laughs. Angela looks down and gropes herself. ANGELA: These are fake? GUESS: Yes. ANGELA: Hmm... they feel real enough. Could have fooled me. GUESS: Well, we used the most up-to-date methods to try and give that appearance. ANGELA (looks up): Hmm... Angela looks around and sees a Monte Blanc pen lying nearby. ANGELA: I like it. I like it a lot. This'll help me out very much. GUESS: And why is that Angela? ANGELA: Now, no one will suspect that I am about to kill them. Angela suddenly grabs the nearby pen, stands up and stabs the nearest doctor, Dr. Fontane. The other two doctors grab a hold of her and try to pull her back. GUESS: Go get someone! Harris lets go of Angela and runs out of the room. Angela and Guess struggle with each other across the room. Angela tries to body slam Guess, but the doctor weighs way too much for her to accomplish such a feat. Eventually, Harris runs in with a NURSE who is carrying some kind of needle. The Nurse runs over and injects the needle into Angela. After a few moments, Angela's body goes limp and she falls onto the floor, asleep. Guess and Harris leave the sleeping Angela and go over to Fontane, who is still lying on the floor. HARRIS: You alright, Dr. Fontane? FONTANE: I'll live. It's just a cut. GUESS: Nurse, why don't you take Dr. Fontane to get this looked at? NURSE: Yes, Doctor. The Nurse walks over and she and the other two doctors help Fontane to his feet. Afterwards, the Nurse helps Fontane out of the room. Harris and Guess look at each other. HARRIS: Well, what do we do about Angela? GUESS: There's nothing we can do for the moment. Guess looks down at Angela's sleeping body. GUESS: Get some orderlies in here. Put her in a straight jacket and lock her back in her room. HARRIS: Yes, doctor. Harris walks out of the office. Guess turns and looks around the room. CUT TO: Angela's room. Int. Night. Angela is lying in her bed, strapped into a straight jacket. The camera is pulled back into a corner of the room, but slowly closes in on the tired Angela's face. ANGELA (quietly singing): I'm a happy camper. I love the summer sun. I love the trees and forests. I'm always having fun. I'm a happy camper. I love the clear, blue sky. And with the grace of God, I'll camp until I die. By this point, only Angela's face can be seen in the shot. FADE TO: Blue Skies Sanitarium. Ext. Day. It is now six months after the previous scene. CUT TO: Guess' office. Int. Day. Guess, Harris, and Fontane are all there and so is Angela, strapped into a chair with electrodes connected to the side of her head. Guess is sitting down behind a control board which is hooked to Angela's electrodes. GUESS: Now, Angela, do you know why we're doing this? ANGELA: To get frequent flier miles with the electric company? Harris snickers and Angela takes note of it. GUESS: No, Angela. All our attempts at helping you have been for naught. Every time we think we have succeeded, you go off on another murderous rage and try to kill someone. This shock therapy is the only thing left that we haven't tried. HARRIS: I'm still not sure about this. I mean, shock therapy? Isn't that a little barbaric? Isn't there something else we could try? I mean, I never believed in the idea that if you electrocuted someone, it'd help them mentally. FONTANE: I understand what you mean, Dr. Harris, but if not this, then what? What is it that we could try that hasn't been tried? Pills? Drugs? More injections? HARRIS: Well, er, uh... GUESS: Sorry, Angela, but this is all we have left. Are you ready? ANGELA: I suppose. I've never been deep fried before. Harris looks over at Angela. HARRIS: Sorry, Angela. Guess switches on the electrical current. A crackling noise is heard and the electricity enters Angela's head through the electrodes. The shock is enough to raise Angela out of her chair as far as she can go. The young woman moans and screams in pain and sweat begins to pour down the sides of her head. The three doctors watch like statues as the electricity begins to take its toll on Angela. Tears of pain fall out of her eyes. Harris turns away and cannot watch this anymore. CUT TO: Angela's room. Int. Day. Angela is lying in her bed asleep, strapped into a straight jacket again. The door of the room opens and Drs. Guess, Harris, and Fontane walk in, followed by a rather burly-looking ORDERLY. Angela continues to sleep. The three doctors look at each other. Guess walks over and kneels down beside Angela's bed. GUESS (shakes Angela awake): Angela. (shakes Angela) Angela. Angela finally wakes up and turns to see Guess. ANGELA (drowsily): Oh, hello, Dr. Guess. What time is it? GUESS: It's 10:00. How are you feeling, Angela? ANGELA: Like a million bucks. GUESS: Really? Interesting. And what if I were to mention the name Martha? ANGELA: What of it? George's wife on "Dennis the Menace." GUESS: Mm-hmm. Guess looks back at the other two doctors who are writing notes in their notepads. GUESS: Or what if I were to mention the name Peter? ANGELA: What of that? Bill Murray's name in "Ghostbusters." Also the name of the actor who played Inspector Clouseau. GUESS (nods head and smiles): You go right back to sleep, Angela. Angela rolls over and goes to sleep again. Guess stands up and, along the with the other doctors and the Orderly, exits the room. CUT TO: Angela's room. Ext. Day. The doctors and the Orderly come out of the room. GUESS: Thanks John. That'll be all. ORDERLY: See ya, Dr. Guess. The Orderly turns and walks away. FONTANE: Well, what do you think? HARRIS: I don't know. That's the calmest she's been in a while. GUESS: I noticed. And every other time we mentioned the names Peter or Martha, she went into a homicidal fury. Yet, this time, there was nothing. Are you thinking what I'm thinking? FONTANE: Nobel Prize? GUESS: No. I should've been but I wasn't. Don't know why. Anyway, I think that shock therapy might have worked. We'll keep working with her to see, of course, but right now let's just leave her alone. She's earned that sleep. Dr. Fontane, are you thinking what I'm thinking? FONTANE: We should electrocute patients more often? GUESS: No. I was thinking that we could win the Nobel Prize. I've moved on. Harris rolls his eyes, then the three doctors walk away. CUT TO: Sanitarium Board Meeting. Int. Day. It is another six months after the previous scene. The sanitarium's board members have congregated to decide whether or not Angela Baker should be released from their institute. Angela is present, dressed in a brand new pink dress. Guess, Harris, and Fontane are all there, sitting beside their patient. The BOARD MEMBERS, five in all, are all ancient things, looking like the village elders who wanted to ban dancing in "Footloose." They go over notes and papers in folders as the meeting begins. BOARD MEMBER 1: We've called this meeting of the Blue Skies Sanitarium Board to review the case of one Peter Francis Baker who, while in our care became Angela Francine Baker. We will call forth witnesses and take testimony from the doctors who treated the subject, then determine how to proceed from there. Call the first doctor. BOARD MEMBER 2: The board calls Dr. James Guess for testimony. Angela looks over and watches Guess as he stands up and walks forward. FADE TO: Board meeting. Int. Day. It is a little later. Everybody who was previously there is still present, with the addition of a few more. Currently, a PRIEST, in full religious regalia, is giving testimony about Angela. BOARD MEMBER 3: And you say that she never ever tried to do anything unusual or homicidal while she was with you? PRIEST: Never. (looks over at Angela) As her name suggests, she's an angel. Angela smiles. BOARD MEMBER 1: That'll be all. Thank you. You may step down. The Priest stands up and takes a seat with the others. BOARD MEMBER 1: Are there any others whom we can take testimony from? BOARD MEMBER 4: None. BOARD MEMBER 1: Very well. This board will take a short recess and in that time we will come to a decision. Board Member 1 bangs his gavel. The others stand up to stretch their legs and begin to filter out of the room. Guess stands up and turns to face Angela. GUESS: Cross your fingers, Angela. It's looking good right now. ANGELA (smiles): I can tell. CUT TO: Hallway. Int. Day. Angela and her three doctors step out of the board room and into the hallway which is a buzz with the people who have stepped out for a breather. Suddenly, a MAN carrying a drink in a rather large paper cup appears. He bumps into Angela as she walks out of the door and spills the drink all over her. Angela is in disbelief at what has happened and her eyes slant into a seething rage. ANGELA: Look at what you did, you ninny! GUESS: Calm down, Angela. It'll be alright. ANGELA: Alright? This is one of the most important days of my life and this cretin spills his drink on me? What are you thinking? MAN: Look, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to-- GUESS: Just come with me. We'll get you fixed up. Guess takes Angela by the hand and the two walk off. The Man, and Drs. Harris and Fontane watch as the two exit. As she walks away, Angela turns and gives the Man a look that seems to burn clean through him. CUT TO: Board Meeting. Int. Day. The Board is continuing its meeting. Everyone is present once again. Angela is now in another dress, this one a bright blue color. Angela is obviously very anxious to hear the results of the hearing. BOARD MEMBER 1 (clears throat): After listening to the evidence presented before this hearing, it is the decision of this board that Angela Francine Baker is mentally competent and fit to rejoin society. The crowd lets out its usual murmurs that happen when this type of verdict is released. Angela drops her head onto the table in relief. BOARD MEMBER 1 (bangs gavel): Order! Order! The room quiets again. BOARD MEMBER 1: Angela Baker, we at this board wish you good luck and nothing but the best as you re-enter society. Good luck. This hearing is officially over. The Board Member bangs the gavel again. Angela and her doctors stand up. She smiles and shakes hands with each of them. GUESS: Congratulations, Angela. ANGELA: We did it, Doctors! HARRIS: No, YOU did it, Angela. CUT TO: Blue Skies Sanitarium. Ext. Day. Angela and her doctors are standing right outside the gates of the asylum. Angela is carrying a small suitcase that probably contains whatever meager possessions she has. ANGELA: Well, I suppose this is goodbye. GUESS: Yes, Angela. You're finally a free woman now. HARRIS: Angela, I wish you nothing but success in whatever it is you do. Angela smiles. ANGELA: Thank you, Dr. Harris. I'll try. FONTANE: Goodbye, Angela. ANGELA: Goodbye, Dr. Fontane. Guess reaches out and gives Angela a hug. GUESS: Goodbye. As much as I've enjoyed our time together, I can only hope I don't see you here again. Angela laughs. ANGELA: Me too. Well (waves) Goodbye. Angela turns and leaves the doctors. They too turn and leave, but something else strikes Guess. He turns back around to say something. GUESS: Angela--- Guess sees that Angela has disappeared, completely out of sight. Guess looks around and finds Angela nowhere, despite the fact there seems to be nothing around where she could be hiding. FONTANE: What was it? GUESS (shrugs): I guess it wasn't important. The three doctors turn and walk away. The camera pans up into the bright sunny day which is over the area. FADE TO: Camp Rolling Hills Dining hall. Int. Night. It is the current time again. A fog dissipates as the camera moves across the room, revealing the adult Angela sitting on the floor, holding an electrical wire. Angela slowly looks up into the camera. ANGELA: That was then, but this is now. Angela takes the electrical cord and sticks it directly into her mouth. We hear a sick, crackling sound as the electricity flows through her body and we see smoke floating out the top of her head, but there is no reaction from Angela herself other than a wicked smile. Eventually, Angela opens her mouth and drops the cord onto the floor. ANGELA (looks back into the camera): New York is long overdue for a visit from the Angel of Death. Angela begins laughing maniacally. Fade out. FADE IN: Dr. Guess' home. Ext. Night. Guess' house is a rather large ritzy one, probable of someone of his profession and stature. A small box sits outside the house, sitting on a long sidewalk leading up to the door. The door opens up and Guess walks out, dressed in a smoking jacket. He shuts the door behind him and sees the box sitting before him. The doctor looks around, confused, then walks out to the box. Guess picks the box up and shakes it, revealing the box is obviously light. Guess looks around again, perhaps trying to find the person who left it. Eventually, he begins to open it up. Once all the flaps are pulled open, Guess' face turns to that of confusion as he sees only a sheet of paper with a message written on it. He picks up the paper and reads it aloud. GUESS (reads aloud): "I'm a happy camper. I love the clear, blue sky. And with the grace of God, I'll camp until I die." What the hell? Guess looks up just in time to see Angela coming down at him from the sky. She wears her trademark grin and is dressed as the Grim Reaper, flying through the sky down towards Guess. Her scythe is pulled back behind her head, and as she approaches the doctor, she swings it down to strike him, until-- CUT TO: Guess' bedroom. Int. Night. Guess wakes up from what was obviously a nightmare, gasping for air. The sudden jerk causes Guess' WIFE to awaken as well. GUESS' WIFE: What's wrong, dear? GUESS: I just had a dream. GUESS' WIFE: Me too, and you just ruined it. GUESS: No, it was a nightmare about Angela Baker. GUESS' WIFE (drowsily): It was only a dream. Go back to sleep. As soon as she finishes speaking, Guess' Wife is already well on her way back to dreamland. Guess slowly lies back down and tries to get some more sleep. CUT TO: Guess' house. Ext. Day. A car drives by the rather large front yard. The year is now 1986, two years after Angela was released from the asylum. CUT TO: Guess' kitchen. Int. Day. Guess is eating breakfast with his wife at a table. Both Guess and his wife are reading the morning paper. Nearby, a small television set is on. GUESS' WIFE: You believe this Iran- Contra stuff? GUESS: Well, if Nixon did that Watergate thing, I suppose this isn't all that different. I suspect that sooner or later, we'll start electing presidents that won't get involved in these scandals. Guess' Wife chuckles. GUESS' WIFE: How are you feeling this morning? GUESS: Better. In fact, pretty good. But last night, that dream was just a little too real. GUESS' WIFE: Ah, calm down. There'll be plenty of time for your psychiatrist friends to analyze your dream later. We suddenly begin hearing a news report from the nearby television. TV REPORTER (o.s.): A young woman was discovered crushed to death in a train wreck on East Washington this morning. The woman inside was identified as Angela Baker, the woman who was responsible for the deaths of at least 10 children at Camp Arawak in 1983. This news report gets Guess' attention. CUT TO: Television. Ext. Day. On screen is police chief Barney Whitmore, the officer who arrested Angela at Camp Arawak. BARNEY: It's always tragic when something like this happens, but I have to say I am somewhat relieved. Angela was crazy as hell. There's no telling what she would have pulled, given enough time. Guess is a little upset at Officer Whitmore's statement. TV REPORTER (o.s.): And in other news, Denise Muller, a receptionist for Dr. Jim Carver, has been missing for three days. She is around 5'5" in height, weighs 115 pounds and has dark black hair. If you have seen her or know of her whereabouts, please call (328) 874- 9188. A reward has been offered by her family for any information that may lead to her whereabouts. GUESS: Did you hear that? GUESS' WIFE: I know. A pity. Denise was always very kind to us when we went to see Dr. Carver. GUESS: No, not that! GUESS' WIFE: Then, what? GUESS: Angela Baker's dead. GUESS' WIFE: So what? GUESS: So what?! After all that hard work me, Harris and Fontane put into her, this is how it turns out. Guess shakes his head. GUESS' WIFE: Well, just be careful. There's a lot of people around here, that would say "Good riddance." GUESS: That's too bad. We thought we had cured Angela. A damn shame. CUT TO: Road. Ext. Day. Guess is driving to work down a city street. CUT TO: Guess' car. Int. Day. Guess drives his car, heading for another day of work. He is obviously disturbed that Angela has been reported dead. CUT TO: Road. Ext. Day. The camera pans from Guess' car to another car just behind it. From outside, a woman's figure can be seen in the windows. CUT TO: Blue Skies Sanitarium. Ext. Day. The facility hasn't changed at all since Angela left. CUT TO: Guess' office. Int. Day. Guess is sitting at his desk, doing some paperwork. Suddenly, a knock is heard at the door. GUESS (continues doing paperwork): Come in. The door opens up and the sanitarium's MAIL CARRIER comes in. The Mail Carrier walks over to Guess' desk with a single letter. MAIL CARRIER: Only one letter today, Doctor. Guess takes the letter from the Mail Carrier. GUESS: Thanks. The Mail Carrier turns and exits the office, closing the door behind her. Guess looks at his letter, seeing there is no return address anywhere to be seen. Guess uses a letter opener to slice open the top of the letter, then takes the letter itself out. The letter reads in large, blood red colored letters: "I'M ROASTING IN HELL. TOO BAD YOU CAN'T JOIN ME. WE'D HAVE A BLAST!" Just as soon as Guess reads the letter, it bursts into a quick flame. Apparently, whoever sent the letter wrote the message on flash paper. Guess jerks back in shock and breathes heavily as smoke dissipates through the air. Suddenly, the phone rings, causing Guess to jolt again. He realizes what is going on, then calms down and answers the phone. GUESS: Hello. The scene cuts between Guess in his office and Officer Barney Whitmore in his office at the police station. BARNEY: Dr. Guess? GUESS: This is he. Who is this? BARNEY: This is Chief Whitmore. GUESS: Hello, Chief. I saw you on the news this morning. BARNEY (laughs): Yeah. Well, I have a little news of my own for you. GUESS: Yes. BARNEY: Well, the results from our tests of that body they said was Angela Baker came back today. GUESS: And? BARNEY: And the dentistry records don't match up. The body we found isn't Angela Baker. GUESS: But you found I.D. that said she was Angela. BARNEY: That's true. We haven't a clue how this woman ended up with Angela's I.D. (pause) Though, there is one possibility. GUESS: And that is? BARNEY: Angela used this person, whoever she is, to fake her own death. We're checking our missing persons reports right now. Now, we understand it's no crime to fake your own death, but when it comes to murdering another person to do it, well... that's that. GUESS: Hmm... I was under the impression that it was illegal to fake your own death. Oh, well. Learn something new everyday I suppose. BARNEY: Yeah. Look, I gotta go, but you be careful, because there's no telling what Angela's about to pull, if anything. GUESS: Of course, Chief Whitmore. Thank you very much. BARNEY: Goodbye, Doctor. GUESS: Bye. Guess hangs up the phone, then looks around, conspicuously. CUT TO: Guess' car. Int. Day. Guess is driving down a road, probably headed out to lunch. As he drives, the thought that Angela is still out there obviously is bothering him. BARNEY (memory): The dentistry records don't match up. The body we found isn't Angela Baker. HARRIS (memory): Guys, this is by far the strangest case we've ever handled. GUESS (memory): All our attempts at helping you have been for naught. Every time we think we have succeeded, you go off on another murderous rage and try to kill someone. Guess remembers the sound of Angela screaming as they apply shock therapy to her. ANGELA (memory): Now, no one will suspect that I am about to kill them. Guess remembers Angela trying to stab Dr. Fontane to death with a pen. Suddenly, Guess realizes he's driving again and is just about to collide with a car parked at an intersection. Guess screams and hits the breaks, but is too late. CUT TO: Road. Ext. Day. Guess' car hits the parked car in front of him. CUT TO: Guess' car. Int. Day. Guess' head slams forward and he hits his teeth on the steering wheel. CUT TO: Road. Ext. Day. Guess gets out of the car and surveys the damage. There isn't much damage to speak of, other than some dented bumpers. The OWNER of the other car also gets out and walks back to see the damage. GUESS: I am so sorry about this. It was entirely my fault. Guess fishes out a business card. GUESS: This is my card. Have your insurance company call me and we'll fix this up. The Owner takes the card, then looks at Guess. OWNER: Okay, (reads card) Dr. Guess. Guess smiles and nods, then the two motorists get back into their vehicles. CUT TO: Guess' car. Int. Day. Traffic starts up again as evident that the background is moving. Guess looks in his rear view mirror, but has to do a double take as he realizes something: one of his front teeth are chipped. GUESS (studies tooth): Aw, dammit! Guess breaks out his cell phone and dials a number. The phone rings several times, and finally a woman's voice picks up on the other end. WOMAN (over phone): Dr. Carver's office. How may I help you? GUESS (into phone): Yeah. This is Dr. Guess. I need to see Dr. Carver as soon as possible. Is there sometime today I could make an appointment? WOMAN (over phone): Uh, hold on. Let me see. Yeah, Dr. Carver has a free spot of 3:00. Is that good? GUESS (into phone): That's perfect. I'll be there. WOMAN (over phone): Okay, I'll pencil you in for 3:00, Dr. Guess. GUESS (into phone): Thank you. Goodbye. Guess hangs up the cell phone. CUT TO: Guess' office. Int. Day. It is a few hours after the previous scene. Guess is nowhere to be seen. The phone rings, but of course, no one is around to answer it. After a few rings the answering machine picks it up. GUESS (on machine): You have reached the office of Dr. Guess. I'm not in at the moment, but if you please leave your name and number, I'll get back to you as soon as I can. The machine beeps. BARNEY (over phone): Dr. Guess, this is Chief Whitmore again. We found out the identity of the woman who was in the train wreck. It's a woman named Denise Muller, reported missing four days ago. She works at Dr. Carver's dentist office. She's the same height, same build, same hair color as Angela. We'll keep ya posted on any new findings. Barney can be heard hanging up on the other end. CUT TO: Dentist's office. Int. Day. Guess walks into the dentist's office. Several other people are waiting in the office as well. Guess walks over to the RECEPTIONIST's desk. The Receptionist is a smiling, somewhat familiar-looking woman, probably no older than 17 or 18. The name plate on her desk reads "Angela Johnson." ANGELA: Thank you for coming, Dr. Guess. Dr. Carver is expecting you. He'll be with you in a moment. Until then, would you just please fill out this paperwork? GUESS: Of course. (looks at Angela) You look familiar. Have we met somewhere before? ANGELA: Oh, I've been around. You've probably seen me somewhere in town. GUESS: Hmm... must have. Guess turns and walks away with the paperwork in his hand. He sits down in a nearby chair and begins filling out the paperwork. CUT TO: Several minutes later. ANGELA: Dr. Guess? Dr. Carver will see you now. Guess stands up. GUESS: Thank you. CUT TO: Dentistry room. Int. Day. Guess walks into the room and is met by Dr. Carver, an older looking, bespectacled bald man. The two shake hands. GUESS: Good afternoon, Dr. Carver. How are you today? CARVER: Oh, pretty good. How are things up at the asylum? GUESS: Not bad. In fact, you might even say it's been slow the last two years. CARVER: Is that so? (pause) Oh, I just forgot something. Could you please get in the chair and wait a few minutes? GUESS: Of course. Guess climbs into the dentist's chair as Carver turns and walks out of the room. CUT TO: Gas nozzle. Ext. Day. A feminine-looking hand turns on a tank of sleeping gas, then reaches down and picks up an oxygen mask to breathe out of. CUT TO: Door. Ext. Day. The same hand that turned the gas nozzle locks the door. CUT TO: Dentistry room. Int. Day. Guess slowly begins to go to sleep as the gas overtakes him. As he sleeps, clicking can be heard in the background over the noise of the gas escaping. After a few moments, the clicking noises and the gas tank noise come to a stop. ANGELA (o.s.): Oh, I'm a happy camper, I love the summer sun. I love the trees and forests. I'm always having fun. The singing causes Guess to awaken from his sleep. He looks around and tries to raise his arms, but finds that his arms and legs are handcuffed to the chair. Guess begins to panic as he finds himself helpless. ANGELA (o.s.): Oh, I'm a happy camper. I love the clear blue sky and with the grace of God, I'll camp until I die. Suddenly, Angela, who in fact was the Receptionist, pops up behind Guess. Guess looks in shock upon seeing who is there with him. ANGELA: Oh, those teeth... Tsk, tsk, tsk. I'm afraid they'll all have to go. Don't tell Angie when it starts to hurt. GUESS: Angie? (pause) Angela! You're supposed to be dead! Angela holds up a small drill and cranks it on. ANGELA (singing): Everything dies, baby that's a fact, but maybe, everything that dies, some day comes back. (in normal voice) Well, not everything. Angela takes Guess by his head and begins to point the drill towards Guess' head. Guess begins to scream out in terror as Angela pushes it closer and closer to him. The noise of someone trying to get in through the door from outside can be heard over the noise of the drill. CUT TO: Wall. Ext. Day. Blood from Guess' head splatters all over the nearby wall. CUT TO: Dentistry room. Int. Day. The camera does not show Guess' body, but we can assume he is dead from the fact that he has stopped screaming. Chunks of Guess' skull fly back and hit Angela in the face, prompting her to squint her eyes and spit back the pieces that fly into her mouth. Eventually, Angela turns off the drill and steps back to admire her handiwork. ANGELA: Now, there's a smile every mother would love! Suddenly, Dr. Carver and an ASSISTANT bust into the room, having to knock out a piece of the door to get past the lock. As soon as the Assistant spots Guess' corpse, she turns her head away in disgust. Angela, of course, is nowhere to be seen. CARVER: Oh, my God... It's all the Assistant can do to keep from wretching. Dr. Carver is horrified beyond belief. We see a woman's hand reach out of the side of the shot and grab a hold of a nearby door knob and begin to close the door. CUT TO: Camp Rolling Hills. Ext. Night. Angela, once again 32-years-old, closes the door which is leading to one of the old cabins at the camp, switching the locale from the dentist's office in 1986 to Camp Rolling Hills in 2000. She is carrying a small purse over her right shoulder. ANGELA: When you go to camp, you'd better look hard and look twice because It's likely I'll be right there beside you, kids. Angela points at a 45 degree angle away from the camera. ANGELA: Beside you. Angela turns and points at the same 45 degree angle, but in the opposite direction of the camera. ANGELA: Or you. Angela turns and slowly walks away, down the side of the cabin. Before she gets too far, she stops and turns her head to look back at the camera, then points straight at it. ANGELA: Or you. Angela turns back around and slowly strolls away into the darkness of the night and the cover of the forests. ANGELA (singing): Every fool's gotta reason for feelin' sorry for himself and turnin' his heart to stone. Tonight this fool's halfway to Heaven and just a mile out of hell and I feel like I'm comin' home. These are better days, baby. There's better days shinin' through. These are better days, baby... Fade to black. The end. www.sleepawaycampfilms.com
